I parked up at the end of Marsh Farm Road next to South Woodham Ferrers Yacht Club, smack bang opposite the Anchor in Hullbridge. I used to enjoy taking my young kids there to the indoor play area in the mid 2000s when it looked untouched from the 60s, but a refit a few years ago has turned it into another ghastly gastropub. If you want a £15 burger served on a slab of wood and chips in a little fry basket instead of a plate, the Anchor's your place.
I walked east so I had the Crouch on one side and Hawbush Creek on the other.
The path is paved for about 3/4 mile and then there's a fairly well-worn track in the grass which was churned up a bit, so it must be more popular than I thought. I saw very few people there. Even though the ground should have been frozen it was quite muddy in places.
The Crouch is pretty wide at this point although the tide is usually quite low whenever I go there.
I managed to get lucky with the low-lying flock of birds. My phone was on standby but it's ready to take photos in just a couple of seconds so I managed to get a couple of pictures before they all disappeared.
