Off to the Isle of Man today for a quiet weekend away!
Never been before and it was somewhere I always wanted to go. The flight from Gatwick took about an hour and I was in Douglas about 30 minutes after stepping off the plane, so it was a pretty easy place to get to!
I spent two days walking around Douglas, and thanks to a couple of bus rides also managed to have a look round Peel and Castletown. I didn't record every walk I did - there was a lot of stop/start going on and in reality I probably walked three times as much as that, but the stats are all about specific times that I go out for a walk to burn some calories, so they didn't get added into the figures above.
So this post is mainly a pictorial one showing where I actually took myself over the weekend.
As this blog is called "Beer vs Walking" I have to confess to having my first beer of the year too. I didn't quite make it through Dry January this year, or I beat everyone by 25 days, depending on which perspective you choose.
The Isle of Man has a variety of local lagers including Norseman (what else?) which was quite nice. My first beer of the year was actually this Lebanese one which I found at Gatwick airport.
As I had a variety of 4% and 5% beers I have used 210 calories/pint as a guide.
Measured walks over the weekend:
2.56 miles in 1 hr 0 min 53 sec (ave 2.52mph)
Calories burned 456; steps taken 6,323; elevation 50 ft
9 deg C, grey clouds
Beer: Fri 3.16 pints, Sat 3 pints, Sun 3.16 pints - 2,198 calories
